Take Two
Take Two is a reformulation of a quartet that was formed in 2001, but never got off the ground because one of the members was stolen away by another quartet. We all knew there was great potential for the group, and finally, after a few years and tinkering with other parts and other quartets, we all decided to give it another go.
Leonard Huls sings tenor and lives in Mankato. We found Leonard working at Menard’s, which is why we call him our “ ‘bargain’ counter-tenor”.
Jim Wirtz, from Nicollet, is the lead of Take Two. The most musically talented of the group, the quartet is nevertheless thrilled to have Jim leading us, especially when we need a ringer for golf, because Jim is ambidextrous and can swing from both sides.
Jerry Hawbaker, aka ‘His Lordship, the Mayor’, is the bass, lives in St. Peter, and actually was the Mayor of St. Peter for 10 years. Now retired and living in seclusion, Jerry spends every waking moment asleep, dreaming of singing in a championship quartet.
Doug Peterson sings the most beautiful part – the baritone – and is actually the glue that holds this quartet together. Called ‘the Man with the Golden Pipes’, Doug never lords his intelligence, good looks, and savoir faire over anyone, which is why he is so well-loved by all. I live in St. Peter.
